Skytail

An original upcoming VR Action Adventure, featuring floating islands, psychic powers, and a cuddly companion.

  • A commercial game developed in the Unity game engine for Meta Quest 2, 3, 3S and Pro Devices. Primarily acted as a gameplay programmer, joining for December 2025 to January 2026 to help the team with bugfixing and delivering in preparation for release.

  • Developed game as part of Coatsink, who are also publishing the game.

Description

Skytail is an upcoming VR fantasy adventure, developed and published by Coatsink. The player and their dragon-like companion must travel from island to island to save your companion's offspring from malicious fiends.

Gameplay consists of both challenging "trials" where the player must discover and use telekinetic powers, and high octane fights in flight against fiends looking to take the player down. In downtime, the player can also take care of their companion, through feeding them and petting them.

Project Overview

I joined onto this project for a short period at the request of the lead programmer, working with the programming team and QA to fix as many bugs as possible, ensuring the game ran smoothly, bug-free and met Coatsink's expectations of a high quality game. I used my experience on larger projects such as Men In Black: Most Wanted in a smaller development environment to focus on eliminating longstanding bugs, and implementing small but vital interactions with the game at a fast pace.

Project Responsibilities
  • I primarily worked on fixing bugs to help lower the amount of overhead in the approach to the game's release. I also worked on implementing small interactables in the island areas, including various "toys" for the player and Companion to play with.
  • Due to the size of the project, I worked with all departments in some capacity, ensuring the project and its information was up to date and organized.

  • I also participated in regular playtesting to improve the fun factor, sending feedback to design and recording unticketed bugs where possible.
